Could you spend the rest of your life with someone who had horrific taste in music? How important is it to you to share your love of music with a good friend or romantic partner?

No I could not.
Music is quite the important thing to me, and sharing my love for it with people is too. It's possibly the quickest way to my heart, haha! I am almost constantly listening to rhythms and melodies. It makes me eager and interested to know a person a bit more if we have similar tastes, because that in turn will likely lead to us having other things in common. In all kinds of relationships, I think we'd have to have a mutual feeling or agreement on most music-related things. Not basing happiness or anything with a person solely on music, no of course not, but in the long run it's a factor to respect and love the same sounds. I certainly wouldn't want to push my love of certain genres or artists on someone and have them shoot it down. I'm affectionate with tunes, and want to be able to freely turn to someone with 'Oh, this made me think of you!' or 'This sounds great, I think you'd get a kick outta it!'. Music is one of those wonderful things that brings people together, so of course I find it important to wanna share.

Also I am determined to make them brownies today.

1/6/10 12:10 pm - [info]rinsound - I'm back!

Heya guys!
I'm back home now,  and I hope that you all have had a nice holiday. :>

I actually had thought of write some more now, but my mother suddenly asked me to help her out with something so I'll do that later.

I've had a really good christmas anyway . ;D

1/5/10 10:05 pm - [info]einahsketch - Late, late, very late, and very few sketches (and half an hourly)

Yeeeeeeeeah, so I've been... pretty inactive on the internet over the last two weeks. This is mainly because I spent about a weeks worth of time away from the computer, the other half week with friends and little opportunity to do much on the computer, and the final half... just... playing Fallout 3 or Sims 3.

But now school is back in session, and I need something to distract from the misery that that school inflicts upon me every weekday from here to June, so the internet is a great distraction. Expect to see more of me on lj and twitter.

But don't expect to see me on dA. I'm pretty much quitting cold turkey on that place, unless I start doing real art again and not just sketches some time soon. The people there just piss me off, and not the ones that interact with me directly, they're mostly nice. You know. Just the other 99.9999% of its users.

Anyway, let's post some sketches, shall we?

(Now I'm lame and didn't scan any of the note sketches drawn over the last semester, so these are, for the most part, moleskine sketches. And there aren't many of them. It's been an unproductive winter break.)

Now then, onto something slightly different. It's January, and do you know what January is? That's right, it's hourly comic month! The month where every hour that you're awake of every day of January you draw up a panel or two depicting something that happened or something you thought of within that hour! I forgot for the first four and a half days of January, and made a feeble attempt to get an hourly started today, but really wasn't in the mood, what with it being the first day of school after the break and all. But here're my attempts, about 6 hours worth of material and 12 panels. Hopefully I'll do better in the coming days:

I'm trying to find whatever spirit was in me last year when I did these. Due to a death in the family, I only got about a week in, but I remember deciding to take Sundays off. We'll see if that happens again this year. The style itself is pretty much the exact same as last year. Not sure if that's a good or bad thing.

I'm aware that I'm a total crank in this comic.
I wrote this one before New Year's, and ended up having a really fun celebration, actually! In spite of my curmudgeonly musings.

I was in Florida for Christmas with my family. I made this little doodle comic while I was sitting on the beach, getting freckles.

I'm going to be at NonCon this February, where I'll be giving a panel talk on my personal experiences with self-publishing and professional-publishing (with slides!). Really excited to be at Vassar as a professional grownup, because I used to walk past it on my high school lunch breaks and go, "Look at those smart grownups!"

My birthday is next monday-- January 11th! I'll be 25. ...So the holidays aren't over yet!

So I go to the storage room to get some paper for the student printer, right?

I unlock and open the door and immediately there is a dude lying face down on the floor right in front of me.

WHAT.

And then I turn on the light and see it's just one of the criminal justice department's mannequins.

I freakin hate those things.

I had started this waaaay back in June or something. I had had an idea that Mela would be in a MAGICAL GIRL COMIC and she'd have a MAGICAL SHARK FRIEND but that never happened (I am not so good at comics :{). and this is pretty much all that exists of that idea, hahahaha.
MOAR )

Each morning when I am making my breakfast I look out the kitchen window and see little kitty tracks and THEY MAKE ME HAPPY they're so adorable. So tiny! And then I get kind of sad because he's wandering around in the snow. Eating other things wandering in the snow. D:

1/5/10 08:59 pm - [info]hopelarson - Lynn Lau's winning entry

I just got permission from Lynn to post this, so here it is!

In 1859 I would be one of the Chinese immigrants settled in the Malaccan straits. Dad would be in his element playing the middleman between local merchants and British colonials, while I'd help my mum supplement the family income by weaving mengkuang mats (and to her great exasperation, I still would not sit like a girl). It is a time full of change as new cultures and governments intermingle, and I would feel the barest inkling of some sort of pull that, not too long later, I imagine would draw me away from home and out into the world.

1/6/10 07:47 pm - [info]lucia_tanaka - Gamer thoughts.

+ Assassins Creed 2 done. SO HOW ABOUT THAT ENDING? Also, Subject 16 is love. Best part of the game was Cam Clarke, I'm not gonna lie. I think he's one of my favorite VAs now. He was astounding in this, really tore at my heartstrings.

+ Oh hay, I guess I can play Persona 4 again now, lol.

+ Am I that bad of a person for wanting very badly to play Bayonetta? I mean, HELLO. It was done by Clover Studio alumni and the DMC designers. And, you know what, yes, I am shallow at times and Bayonetta is hot. Though the Hair Thing freaks me out.

+ Was Repeat to Fade 3 really awful or something? :k-kinda sad: I don't think I'm obligated to have reviews, but after so many expressed excitement... I dunno. I'm confused that I really misstepped somehow. :sighs:

+ Anyway. There is no VA work in Metal Gear Ac!d! That's... more jarring than I ever expected. Also, movement is so fucking tedious. I'm so glad I love the visual style to pieces.

That's all for now. :3

I got one of these: [link]

It's absolutely fantastic but it's got this little touchscreen keyboard and it always seems that I hit the key to the right of the one I want. I think I'm getting the hang of it now though.

Lols, first time on livejournal and update after several months. Yeah, I dunno....I just didn't feel like playing DWM2 and trying to come up with funny shit to say. I'm about average at this at best, and since not many people are interested...meh, whatever, the point is I didn't wanna update but then I decided I wanted to again. WHATEVS.

The latest on my list of I-should-have-been-sleeping: Kyle Reese now has the best paired icons I can give him.

(How many Metal Gear references can I pack into this guy? Probably more than currently, but I did try.)

And thoughts? Anyone? I really want to do this, but I worry [info]keelieinblack's right that it might descend into an argument instead of content. I just want some creative porn! :(

1/5/10 01:04 pm - [info]hopelarson - MERCURY contest winners!

Most people did a writing/art combo, so the lines of the contest were blurred a little bit. Regardless, my favorite entries were these:

[info]krishnaa's entry about living in India, here;
[info]meeleena's awesome drawing that she should expand into a comic, because I'd read it, here;
[info]ducttapesnakes's written/drawn entry about being biracial in 1859, here;
• and Lynn Lau's written/drawn entry about Chinese immigrants living in the Malaccan straits, which I'm waiting on permission to post here.

You four are getting books, so please send me your addresses when you get a chance!

Everyone else, thank you so much for entering! All of your entries were wonderful, and I had a tough time narrowing it down to four. I wish I could give you all books. ♥

1/5/10 01:07 am - [info]wefeelgroove - mmmmMMOVIES

So I saw some movies!

Dad and I went to see Avatar on New Year's Eve. It was... pretty good! So glad we went to see it in 3D- the pretty was multiplied about 9001 times. The story was mostly ok but at least it was pretty. It was so pretty. Seriously I think I still would have been happy if it had been two hours of staring at the pretty landscapes.

Yesterday I went with my cousin to see the Princess and the Frog. It was AWESOME.

OMG.

AWESOME. Everybody should go see it right now if they haven't it's so very Disney.

And my cousin loves Disney animation too so we were both just like ":D :D :D :D" the entire time. The songs were great and everything was adorable and the pimped out princess dress was so very pimped out. AWESOME. I'm getting it the day it comes out on DVD.
